Estate planning is the legal process of creating a proper estate plan for your family. The estate plan is a set of documents that control your financial, medical, and family affairs. It consists of documents that dictate how your wishes should be carried out in the event you become incapacitated and how your assets should be distributed at death. Estate planning documents can consist of a Power of Attorney, a Will, a Trust, a Healthcare Directive, a Living Will, and many other documents. We call this process Life and Legacy Planning.
“I have been a client of Attorney Micah Hall and The Hall Law Firm in a couple of capacities, and would highly recommend her as an estate planning attorney. Attorney Hall prepared estate documents for myself and my husband, providing advice on how best to protect our assets and clearly state our intentions in the event of our death. The Hall Law Firm also handled the estate of my deceased sister through the probate process, advising me though my appointment as personal representative for the estate, and bringing the probate and estate process to a close. I have high standards in terms of the provision of legal services, and would refer Attorney Micah Hall without hesitation.”

From Micah…
Estate planning can seem like an overwhelming and intimidating process, but I’ve learned through two decades of experience that the much more arduous process comes from not having an estate plan in place. Having an estate plan is really about preserving and passing on your legacy. It does not necessarily eliminate all litigation, but it does stop a lot of it. Having clear terms means there won’t be much to debate in terms of litigation. The main purpose of estate planning is to minimize the difficult decisions that have to made – as well as the time and money spent making those decisions – when a loved one passes.
Growing up, my dad had this beautiful ’76 Cadillac that he absolutely cherished. He would always say to me, “When I’m gone, this car is going to be yours!” Now it’s one thing for someone to say that in a hypothetical sense. It’s quite another when the day actually comes and that possession he valued so deeply truly became mine – because of the designations he proactively made. I felt proud to be the chosen caretaker of his automotive child. I knew I was loved and that a part of him was still here with me.
