I broke my wrist a few years after opening my firm. At the time, I was spending nearly every day in court, I had staff to manage and clients to meet with. I didn’t have time to deal with a broken wrist. Me, being that “A” type personality, thought, “ok. I’ll have to rearrange my schedule for a couple of days and then I’ll be back at it.” Well, that wasn’t the case, my wrist was broken in 3 places, and I needed surgery, then rehab. I needed to take time off to heal and there was no way I could manage my firm. I realized that I hadn’t designated anyone to take over when something unexpected happened. How could I leave myself so unprotected? Poor planning, that’s how.
Don’t let this cautionary tale become your reality. Your business is your lifeline. If you value your business, don’t leave it unprotected when the unexpected happens. A Business Power of Attorney can ensure there are no gaps in your plan when life happens.
